Emergency services have been called to reports of an explosion at a gas works in Margam.
Three fire engines, police and ambulance crews are currently in attendance at the incident at BOC Gas & Gear, after receiving a call at around 14:26.
There are currently no confirmed reports of any injuries.
An eyewitness on social media described hearing a bang and seeing “large plumes of smoke”.
South Wales Police said the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.
David Rees, Assembly Member for Aberavon, tweeted to say that he was pleased that there were no reported injuries.
