Five taken to hospital including three children after M4 crash near Newport

Three children and a man have been taken to hospital after a crash on the M4.

Gwent Police said a silver Peugeot collided with a truck, leaving it stranded in the middle lane.

The man and children were in the Peugeot and were taken to hospital by ambulance but their injuries are not thought to be serious.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said a fifth person was also taken to hospital.

The M4 westbound near Newport closed until 2pm this afternoon because of the multi-vehicle crash.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said it sent multiple crews to the scene of an incident involving a number of vehicles.

There is still congestion and drivers are being advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes.
